Cantine Belisario is a 300-hectare co-operative founded in 1971.
Today, 24 of the vineyards are biodynamic. It is the biggest producer
of Verdicchio in the Matelica DOC which although lesser known than the
Castelli di Jesi, can be every bit as good. Belisario's vineyards are
situated inland, in the Esina Valley, Matelica, where the climate is
more continental. The combination of warm days and cool nights gives a
longer growing season, which in turn ensures good flavour in the
grapes. Terre di Valbona is a blend of grapes selected from some of the
best vineyards included in the co-op. They are situated on a hillside
at between 350-450m above sea level and have a southerly exposure. The
age of the vines is between 9-24 years old. Harvest took place between
the 22nd September and the 1st October. This 100% Verdicchio wine is
bright, clean lemon yellow in colour. It is fresh and clean on the
nose, with an attractive floral, lemony perfume. On the palate it is
zesty, youthful and unoaked, with good length and a mineral quality on
the finish. |
