Roger Louer and a group of his friends bought Blossom Creek House and
11 surrounding acres in Calistoga in 1996. The original intention was
to grow and sell grapes. After a few years of noticing that high
quality wines were being made from those grapes, Calistoga Cellars was
created and the group of friends became winery owners. Roger is also
the owner of Louer Family Vineyards in St.Helena. In 1999, Barry Gnekow
left J. Lohr to become Calistoga Cellar’s winemaker. Fruit is sourced
primarily from the estate and Louer Family Vineyards. This wine is a
blend of Cabernet Sauvignon (85%) and Merlot (15%). It is fermented in
stainless steel and aged in French oak barrels for 18 months. This full
bodied, smooth, elegant wine has pronounced classic Cabernet plum,
chocolate and tobacco flavors. It can be enjoyed now or cellared until
2010. It complements steak, lamb or other hearty fare. |
