Initial aromas of red berries - especially raspberry - are complemented
by earth and spice. Smooth, round tannins and flavors of red plum,
cherry and raspberry, as well as earthy and spicy notes, float on a
medium body. A subtle hint of graphite and smoke lead to a fairly long
and elegant finish.
This wine is made entirely from free-run juice. It is a blend of about
40% old vine Carignan (65+ years old) with the rest being a blend of
Grenache and Syrah (25-46 year old vines). The wine is vinified for 9
month in barrels varietal by varietal. We then blend the wine and place
it in small cask for up to 15 months before bottling. The result is a
marvelously complex and clean wine that rivals anything produced in the
appellation. The red fruits burst from the glass with mild hints of
toast and spice that continue through the impeccably balanced finish.
