Founded in 1772, by Phillipe Cliquot, this champagne house was taken over by his daughter-in-law (Mlle. Ponsardin) upon his son's death in 1805. In 1810, the estate was renamed Veuve (French: ""widow"") Cliquot Ponsardin. Madame Cliquot and her cellar master invented the riddling table in 1816 to clarify champagnes. This process (albeit modernized and sometimes mechanized) is still in use today. This is now part of the LVMH group (Moet Hennessey Louis Vuitton). ""Light-weight and bracing, with lemon, apple and mineral notes. Balanced on the tart side, with moderate length. Drink now. "" Wine Spectator rated 85 |
