Louis Henry Denis Jadot founded Maison Louis Jadot in 1859 with the purchase of négociant firm of Lemaire-Fouleux. He wasn’t exactly unfamiliar with the wine industry – his family owned half of Chevalier-Montrachet Les Demoiselles, a grand cru vineyard (since 1794) as well as Clos des Ursules vineyard (since 1826). Louis, then his son, focused on expanding vineyard holdings. His grandson focused on expanding exports. The direct family line ended with Louis’s grandson. The estate was acquired by Kobrand Corporation in 1985, the sole U.S. importer of Louis Jadot wines since 1945) and expansion of vineyard holdings resumed. Throughout all of the changes, Maison Louis Jadot’s core philosophy remains unchanged – balance tradition and technology to achieve the best expression of “terrior”. The Pouilly Fuisse (Chardonnay) vineyards are in southern Burgundy. The wine is fermented roughly half in stainless steel and half in oak so that the fruit characteristics remain bright, but the wine gains complexity. “Maison Louis Jadot produces a Pouilly Fuissé with emerald gold tones which reflect a wine of finesse and distinction; the tasting is harmonious, fresh, full of flavours with hazelnuts, toasted almonds, grapefruit and lemon aromas. It must be served rather cool and goes very well with shellfish, fish, white meat in cream sauce and poultry.” Winery Notes.
