Peter Cummings, owner of Water Wheel, comes from a family of cherry and tomato farmers. He studied winemaking, then planted his first vineyards (3 acres by the Water Wheel flour mill) in 1972. Water Wheel now has 250 acres primarily planted with Shiraz (150 acres). The Memzie vineyard was purchased in 1990. It was supposed to be used to farm tomatoes, but the soil proved to be limestone which is beneficial for vineyards. ""Light and appealing for its peach and herb flavors, lingering gently. Sauvignon Blanc, Sémillon, Roussanne and Chardonnay. Drink now. "" Wine Spectator rated 86 |
