Concha y Toro was founded in 1883 by Don Melchor and Doña Emiliana Subercaseaux, and planted to traditional Bordeaux varietals (Cabernet Sauvignon, Sauvignon Blanc, Semillon, Merlot, and Carménère.) Modernization began in the late 1950’s with vineyard expansion. Production modernization accelerated in 1987 when Concha y Toro partnered with a U.S. wine importer, Banfi Vintners. The estate owns a total of 11,200 acres within Chile’s major wine regions (Maipo, Maule, Rapel, Colchagua, Curico, and Casablanca). Marqués de Casa Concha derives its name from Don Melchor’s title from the Spanish monarchy. This 100% Cabernet Sauvignon wine comes from the Puente Alto Vineyard in Chile’s Maipo Valley. The wine is oak aged for 18 months, then bottle aged for another 2 months. “Dark ruby-red. Fine red cherries with hints of toasty French oak. Smooth, almost silky texture, round, well balanced and tasteful with a long finish. Concentrated and full bodied. The wine complements steaks, roasts, pasta dishes with robust sauces, and strong cheeses.” Winery notes |
