The Crossings Estate encompasses 3 sites along the Awatere River (Marlborough) covering a total of 346 vineyard acres. The river terraces have differing soil compositions and altitudes creating microclimates within each site. The estate includes the area that 19th century pioneers used to cross the river with their horses. Logically enough, they dubbed the area “The Crossings” (inspiring the winery’s name). The focus is on low yields to concentrate the unique flavors. The estate adheres to New Zealand’s Sustainable Winegrowing program and, so, no pesticides or herbicides are used. A 7 day cold soak is followed by 9 months of oak aging. “Supple, with ripe plum, beetroot and pretty spice notes. Lively acidity, a dash of white pepper and mineral accents carry through the aftertaste. Drink now through 2009” Wine Spectator rated 87 |
