Goulée is produced by the team at Cos d'Estournel. Cos d'Estournel's history dates back to 1811 when Louis Gaspard d'Estournel inherited a small vineyard plot near Cos. Wines from Cos became his passion, but he was perhaps a bit lavish in his additions to the estate and had to sell it in 1852. The estate has changed hands many times since then and was acquired by the Société des Domaines Reybier in 2000. First produced in 2003, Goulée is a relatively new wine for the team. The vineyards are North of Médoc about 11 miles from the Atlantic Ocean on a gravelly hill at a point along the Gironde where its width is 7.5 miles. The location provides very temperate conditions that are very favorable for the varietals grown (80% Cabernet Sauvignon and 20% Merlot). The vines are about 25 years old and the grapes are all hand harvested. ""Currant, berry and light herb aromas follow through to a medium body, with chewy tannins and a medium finish. Best after 2009."" Wine Spectator Rated 86. Also rated 87 - 89 by Robert Parker.
