This full-bodied, robust red has peppery blackberry and plum aromas from syrah, bright, juicy strawberry aromas and flavors from grenache and a smoky, brooding character from carignan.
It hails from Corbiéres in the Languedoc region of southwestern France.
This is a rugged, rocky region where old, gnarled vines cling to the
hillsides and the spicy, herbal aroma called garrigue (a mélange of
fig, olive, thyme, fennel, oregano and other wild aromatic plants)
perfumes the air.
The area where Château de Sérame is located has
a history of farming and winemaking dating back to the Romans. Today
the château is managed by the French company Dourthe, which is using
its substantial resources to update the vineyards and winemaking.
