Founded by Parisian transplant Alain Cailbourdin in 1981, the domaine
consists of 11 hectares planted primarily in Sauvignon Blanc, with a
minority percentage planted in Chasselas. Alain is part of a new breed
of winemakers dedicated to producing a high quality wine and not just a
high volume wine. His methods are traditional, yet his yields are low
and the wines are concentrated and pure expressions of Sauvignon Blanc.
He believes in using a minimum of sulfur dioxide during and after
vinification. The Les Cris is a beautiful Pouilly-Fumé, offering the
typical pleasant floral perfume. It is flinty and mineral, coming from
three hectares of 20 year old vines planted on stony limestone. Racy and
intense, with great concentration and length.
"Light yellow. Smoky aromas of pear,
peach pit and minerals, plus a kiss of fennel. Sappy orchard fruit
flavors are braced by zesty minerals and become more tangy with air,
picking up a bitter lemon zest quality. Nicely precise wine with good
back-end lift and lingering minerality." -89 Points by Stephen Tanzer
